“…soulful powerhouse of a voice…she finds little ways to line these dark narratives in gleaming silver rings of hope” – No Depression
Nashville, TN – Acclaimed Rounder Records artist Katie Pruitt is set to release the four-song EP The Pleasantville Sessions this Friday, October 10th. The Pleasantville Sessions features three recently released tracks – “Backseat Driver,” “Risk” and “Time Wasn’t Wasted” (featuring Jess Nolan) – plus the brand-new track “Get It Over With.”
“Get It Over With” is about my personal experience going through a breakup with a people pleaser. Having to do the emotional labor because someone else can’t find the words,” Pruitt shares. “It was a hard song to write but equally as hard to live through which made it feel worth sharing. Just in case anyone else can relate (I hope you can’t) this one’s for you.”
Written & recorded in August 2024 in Nashville with co-writer/producer and dear friend Anthony Da Costa, The Pleasantville Sessions was a cathartic process following the difficult separation. “I felt safe to open up again after almost a year of not being able to put pen to paper,” says Pruitt. “I was in a very stuck place when we started and the goal was to get ‘unstuck.’ Anthony’s studio is small but mighty-with incredible outboard gear, vintage mics & all the Collings guitars my little heart could desire but the true anecdote was collaboration & friendship. The name of the studio is appropriately titled ‘Pleasantville Studio’ which really captures the vibe of that place – an incredibly pleasant place to create music.”
Regarding “Backseat Driver,” “Risk” and “Time Wasn’t Wasted,” Pruitt adds, “Stylistically, all three tunes represent a different side of my music – the indie rocker, the lyrically driven acoustic folk song & the pensive piano ballad. These three songs acted as a bridge (both musically & personally) as I left one era of my life & entered into a completely new one.”
Katie Pruit is about to head out on the final leg of her solo acoustic Time Wasn’t Wasted Tour with collaborator Jess Nolan in support. The tour kicks off on October 14th at Union Stage in Washington, DC. See full list of dates below and click HERE for tickets.
The Pleasantville Sessions follows the release of Pruitt’s widely acclaimed sophomore album Mantras, and its deluxe edition (Mantras Deluxe), which features guest appearances from SG Goodman and Ruston Kelly. Upon its release, Mantras garnered coverage from a wide range of media, including, No Depression, Vulture, Entertainment Focus and much more. NPR Music called it, “A gritty soft rocker that nevertheless sparkles.”
Pruitt has been highlighted as a Rolling Stone “Artist You Need To Know,” one of NPR Music’s “Slingshot: 20 Artists To Watch,” and has performed on CBS Saturday Morning. as well as NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk (Home Concert).”
