“Some of the best Americana music is being made by a burly Canadian songwriter…the 10-song LP is a refreshing, uplifting voice in uncertain times…”
– Rolling Stone

Nashville, TN – In celebration of Father’s Day, acclaimed Canadian artist Matt Andersen will host a heartfelt YouTube livestream on Sunday, June 15 at 2PM EST/11AM PST, featuring a special performance of his moving song “Always Be Your Son.” The livestream will spotlight an emotional centerpiece of Andersen’s latest album, The Hammer & The Rose, and aims to honor father figures everywhere with soul and sincerity. Watch Andersen perform “Always Be Your Son” HERE.

The show is free, but fans are encouraged to donate to Brigadoon Village, whose mission is to provide extraordinary kids with an amazing camp experience. The event will serve as a touching tribute to the relationships that shape us, blending Andersen’s renowned musicality with his commitment to community and connection.

“Some of the best parts of me came from my dad. It felt right to put that into words,” says Andersen of the song.

“Always Be Your Son” is a standout from The Hammer & The Rose, Andersen’s most intimate album to date. Known for his powerful vocals and electrifying live shows, Andersen chose to dial it back on the new album, which focuses more on the nuances and lower register of his remarkable voice. The result is an enchanting and deeply soulful 10-song offering that blends elements of folk, blues and Americana delivered with a heartfelt and relaxed vibe.

“…a beautiful detour into intimacy… across 10, often stunning tracks, Andersen perfectly makes the move to a much more subdued collection and manages to turn in one of the best albums of his career in the process.”
– Glide Magazine

The Hammer & The Rose is the follow up to the aptly titled 2023 Juno-nominated album The Big Bottle of Joy, which garnered high praise by the press in Canada, the US, and Europe. No Depression stated, “This is music that spurs elation, songs that reinforce the love of listening and living,” while Glide Magazine said, “Andersen has delivered as uplifting an album as you’ll likely hear this year or any year…”

Whether performing solo, with a small band or a large ensemble, Matt Andersen’s commanding vocals, guitar playing and overall charisma completely mesmerizing. His multi-faceted work has led him to amass over 33 million streams on Spotify and 30 million views on YouTube. He has headlined or performed at festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America, Europe, and Australia.

Matt Andersen will return to NPR’s Mountain Stage on August 17th, performing at the Culture Center Theatre in Charleston, WV. See a list of Matt Andersen’s tour dates below or visit mattandersen.ca/tour.
