Nashville, TN – Acclaimed artist Fruit Bats has released the new track “Think Aboutcha,” which appears on the forthcoming album The Landfill, out June 12th via Merge Records.

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Eric D. Johnson says, “‘Think Aboutcha’ is a song about a preoccupation that has made its way into many of my lyrics: the liminal space in a dream where memories and love and heartache blur into a psychedelic haze. It was recorded live at Bear Creek Studios on a rainy spring day in Washington State. It pretty much sounds like how we sounded playing in that beautiful barn that day, save for a few tiny overdubs and mix magic.” Listen to “Think AboutchaHERE.

The Landfill was inspired by Johnson’s Midwestern upbringing and the somewhat flat terrain that was peppered with those hills that did not rise from natural evolution. For Johnson, those sites became a powerful metaphor. The Landfill imagines standing atop a towering pile of history—personal, emotional, and cultural—using that unlikely vantage point to survey what lies ahead. The result is an album concerned with memory, consequence, and possibility, where the debris of the past becomes the foundation from which new visions emerge.

The Landfill was born out of uncharacteristically prolific period for Johnson (who performs under the Fruit Bats moniker) following 2025’s intimate Fruit Bats solo outing, Baby Man, an introspective offering that garnered high critical praise. Within weeks of completing that album, he went into the studio with his longtime touring band to create in a fully collaborative setting again. Together they prioritized instinct and chemistry over polish, with few overdubs, no click tracks, and performances captured largely in real time.

Fruit Bats recently announced an extensive North American tour that takes place throughout June, July, October and November. See full list of dates below or visit FruitBatsMusic.com.

The Landfill balances communal energy of collaboration with deeply personal writing that wrestles with regret, longing, and hope. Johnson surveys a landscape shaped by everything that came before finding, within it, new ways forward.
