Eclectic Quartet Darlingside Redefine Folk On Their New Album “Birds Say”, Due Out September 18th

Indie-folk quartet Darlingside will release Birds Say, their second album on September 18th via Thirty Tigers. Darlingside (Don Mitchell, Auyon Mukharji, Harris Paseltiner, and David Senft) are a Massachusetts based ensemble, whose sound is an eclectic blend of 60’s folk, clever wry wit, classical arrangements, soaring harmonies and a modern indie-rock sensibility.  While Birds Say may not be Darlingside’s first album, it is the first recording that truly defines their sound and who they are.

Aside from their sound, one of the most unique aspects of Darlingside is their collaborative approach to songwriting.  The band pools ideas, whether generated individually or in a group session, and collectively edits and fine-tunes songs so that each bears the imprint of four different writing voices.  They’ve learned techniques and instruments to support their material, and who plays what instrument can shift from song to song.  Each member sings lead, and the ethereal vocal blend they achieve is the result of the flexibility they have as a group.  Please check out this performance of “God Of Loss” to hear for yourself how incredible their harmonies are.  Click HERE.

Friends for ten years, Darlingside met as students at Williams College. During school they began writing and singing together and moved into a house shortly after graduation to become a band.  That was six years ago, and since then they have continued to hone their songwriting and unique instrumentation, piquing the interest of press outlets like Rolling Stone who highlighted “Blow The House Down” in David Fricke’s Fricke’s Picks in 2014 and The New York Times Booming Blog who highlighted their 2013 collaboration of “Woodstock” with folk singer Heather Maloney.

The band’s mixture of light-hearted humor and weighty themes combined with their powerfully seamless vocals and interlocking arrangements are a rare and unusual combination. Birds Say is the first album that has captured ten years of friendship, passion, creativity and hard work.  The band will be touring heavily in support of the new album.  Please see full tour schedule below.
