In Our Time, the sophomore album from compelling Canadian singer/songwriter AHI (pronounced “EYE”), is set for a July 13th release on 22nd Sentry/Thirty Tigers. Overflowing with honesty, warmth and authenticity, the 11 original songs on In Our Time feature a boundless artist with a unique capacity to connect with anyone and everyone. AHI’s ability to unify his range of folk, soul and rock influences, personal philosophy and penchant for melody to create art that is both deep and accessible is pure alchemy.
These connections were evident around AHI’s 2016 independent Canadian debut We Made It Through The Wreckage, which was released digitally worldwide in January 2017. Without any promotion, publicity, marketing or budget to pull from, AHI’s songs were gradually discovered organically, reaching and converting one new fan at a time. His intimate and captivating live performances only enhanced and accelerated interest. The album began to receive recognition in Canada and beyond with AHI winning the 2017 Canadian Songwriting Competition award for Folk/Singer-Songwriter and the 2017 Stingray Rising Star Award for his infectious song “Ol’ Sweet Day”. The song has gone on to receive over 2.3 million streams to date. AHI was invited to perform an NPR Tiny Desk Concert that posted this past January.
AHI’s songs are a direct reflection of who he is – open, honest, vulnerable and strong. Between his gritty, soulful vocals, thoughtful lyrics and infectious melodies, AHI’s genuine nature shines through and is undeniable. It starts from the opening track “Breakin’ Ground”, which sets the tone with the inspirational tale inspired by the songwriter’s own experience overcoming adversity. The stunning “Made It Home” sees the father of three reflecting on the foundation of who he is and what grounds him. “Straight Ahead” warns of the temptations and perilous pitfalls we all encounter on our individual paths with an anthemic chorus reminding us to stay true and focused. AHI celebrates and honors the loyalty of true love and support through darkness in the emotionally charged “On My Side”.
The common thread that runs through each song on In Our Time is how easily relatable AHI’s stories are. He sings and writes about the common experiences and feelings that touch us all, and therefore connect us all, thus highlighting our similarities rather than our differences.
