Acclaimed singer/songwriter Joshua Ray Walker appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (December 5th) where he performed a rousing rendition of Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You.” The booking, originally scheduled in the spring, had to be postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but it was worth the wait as the powerful Texas vocalist and his band captivated the audience. Watch HERE.
“Cuz I Love You” appeared on Walker’s album What Is It Even? (Soundly Music), which received high critical praise following its August release. The collection features covers of songs by a wide range of uncompromising female artists who have made an impact on Walker’s music and life. Walker reinterprets tracks by Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Sia, Regina Spektor, Cher, and more.
In November, Walker released the Tex-Mex infused holiday original, “Christmas In Dallas” (listen HERE), and his take on Mariah Carey’s modern classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” (listen HERE). In October, Walker released the live EP, I Opened For The Killers And All I Got Was Appendicitis, which includes the new song “Outlaw.” The title is the truth, as the recording documents Walker supporting The Killers while performing with a burst appendix. Fortunately, following a few days in a Reno hospital after the show, Walker is alright and will likely think twice before adhering to “the show must go on” state of mind.
Following the release of his first three albums, often referred to as “The Trilogy” due to their thematic scope – Wish You Were Here (2019), Glad You Made It (2020), and See You Next Time (2021) – Joshua Ray Walker emerged as one of the best young songwriters and vocalists in Americana and country. He has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, CBS Saturday Morning, and the Grand Ole Opry while receiving coverage from a wide range of press, including Rolling Stone, No Depression, BrooklynVegan, American Songwriter, and more.
