Renowned Louisiana Musician Ann Savoy Shares “Cajun Love Song” From Her First Solo Album ANOTHER HEART, out April 19th on Smithsonian Folkways

Acclaimed Cajun artist Ann Savoy has released the playful serenade “Cajun Love Song” from her new album, Another Heart, out on April 19th on Smithsonian Folkways. The renowned musician dedicates the song to her husband and musical compatriot Marc Savoy. Savoy says, “I wrote this song for my husband Marc Savoy, who still after many years of marriage remains a mystery, steeped in French genes going back centuries. Backed by slamming electric guitar by my son Joel, slide guitar of Sonny Landreth, and some raunchy fiddling by Dirk Powell, this rocking love ballad is a tribute to my one-of-a-kind Cajun man.” Listen to “Cajun Love Song HERE. Savoy has made her name as a leading Cajun musician with the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band, Magnolia Sisters and more, and as a historian, digging deep into the traditions of Cajun life through more than 40 albums, thousands of concerts in dozens of countries, and definitive books, including Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People. Here on Another Heart we find a different side of Ann Savoy as a musician. Another Heart is the first solo album by Savoy, in which she shares personal stories that reflect her journey from Richmond, Virginia, to Louisiana, including her experiences in the UK and Europe. This release offers a comprehensive view of her musical style and life experiences and is also a reflective exploration of her artistic evolution and the influences that have shaped her as a person and musician.

Savoy is joined on Another Heart by producer Dirk Powell, who plays a wide array of instruments throughout the album. Other contributors include Rhiannon Giddens, Sonny Landreth, and Savoy’s children Joel, Sarah, Wilson and Gabrielle. Originally planned as a follow up to Savoy’s Grammy-nominated Adieu False Heart with Linda Ronstadt, the album features Savoy originals including “Cajun Love Song,” Gabie’s New Year’s Lament,” and “Triste Samedi(A Sad Saturday)/A Hurricane Song).” The rest of the collection showcases Savoy’s range as she interprets songs by notable artists such as  Joni Mitchell, Richard Thompson, The Kinks, Sandy Denny, Donovan, and Bruce Springsteen. These songs touch on themes of longing, loneliness, dreams, and desires, which resonate with Savoy and serve as chapters in her personal story.

Savoy will bring Another Heart to audiences at the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival with a smaller scale set on the Heritage Stage on April 26th  and with the full band show on May 4th.
