Shovels & Rope Release Two New Tracks With Contrasting Styles Ahead Of New Album “Something Is Working Up Above My Head” – Out September 6th On Dualtone Records

LISTEN TO THE POWERFULLY PASSIONATE “I’D BE LYING” HERE AND THE PRIMALLY PULSATING “TWO WOLVES” HERE

NASHVILLE, TN –  The acclaimed, award-winning husband and wife duo of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, aka Shovels & Rope, have released two more tracks ahead of their forthcoming album Something Is Working Up Above My Head (out September 6th on Dualtone Records).

The two new songs contrast stylistically, yet both overflow with signature elements of the Shovels & Rope sound. The passionate delivery and beautiful arrangement of “I’d Be Lying” is an emotional plea in loving support of a dear friend who was going through very challenging times (listen to “I’d Be Lying” HERE). The fuzzy, pulsating rocker “Two Wolves” was inspired by the well-known tale that refers to that battle between good and evil that lives inside of us all. Featuring hypnotic tones and a driving rhythm, the lyrics are strong reminder that we are more in control of our feelings and actions that we realize (listen to “Two Wolves” HERE).

Something Is Working Up Above My Head is the sixth studio album from celebrated and beloved Charleston, SC unit. Shovels & Rope remain the definition of a DIY band with over a decade of character-driven, narrative-based songwriting and electrifying live performances, they show no signs of slowing down. On the new album, Hearst and Trent altered their approach to recording and chose to simplify their process even more than their tried-and-true method of operation. The result of the “less is more” philosophy is an offering that finds Hearst and Trent leaning heavier into the rock and punk roots that have always been foundational to the signature sound of Shovels & Rope.
