Nashville, TN – Acclaimed Rustbelt Country trio The Shootouts are getting into the holiday spirit with the release of their new original single, “Christmas Eve Without You,” out November 21st on Transoceanic Records. The song was written by frontman Ryan Humbert and produced by Dan Knobler (Allison Russell, Lake Street Dive, Bahamas), marking another dynamic collaboration following the success of their 2025 album Switchback. “‘Christmas Eve Without You’ gave us a chance to try something new – we brought in a horn section for the first time on a Shootouts song,” says Humbert. “In my head, when I wrote it, it was always a mix of The Mavericks’ swing, Rockpile’s energy, and the wall-of-sound magic of The Ronettes. It was a blast to see it all come together, and I think that’s what gives the song this big, festive punch.”
Beneath its joyful arrangement lies a heartfelt story about love and longing during the holidays. “‘Christmas Eve Without You’ is one of those songs I’ve carried around for over a decade, just waiting for the right moment,” adds Humbert. “It’s a fun, wall-of-sound holiday tune on the surface — but underneath, there’s a bittersweet story about missing someone.”
Recorded in Nashville, “Christmas Eve Without You” features a lineup of Billy Aukstik (trumpet), Jamie Dick (drums), Jen Gunderman (keys), Lex Price (bass), Morgan Price (tenor and baritone sax), and Knobler on electric and acoustic guitar. The song was engineered by Knobler and Joanna Finley, mixed by Knobler, and mastered by Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound.
“Christmas Eve Without You” arrives just in time to soundtrack the season — a nostalgic, heart-tugging holiday anthem that’s as timeless as it is brand new.
The Shootouts’ journey began in Akron, Ohio in 2015, when Ryan Humbert, Emily Bates, and Brian Poston united on a mission to create music that bridged tradition with their modern Rustbelt identity. Over the past decade, they have become a fixture in the Americana and Traditional Country community, praised for their sharp musicianship, heartfelt songwriting, and tireless dedication to live performance.
Their latest album, Switchback has already been hailed as a career highlight. Rolling Stone called it “the sleeper Americana LP of the summer,” and the record spent more than 11 weeks on the Americana Music Association’s Top 10 Album Chart (peaking at #4). Twangville recently ranked Switchback as the “#2 Best Album of 2025 (So Far)”, saying “every song could have been a hit in the classic days of Music City.” The album features standout collaborations with Sam Bush, Vince Gill, Lindsay Lou, Mickey Raphael, and Rodney Crowell.
The Shootouts made their Grand Ole Opry debut in 2023, followed by their Ryman Auditorium debut in 2025 for Opry 100. Last month marked their 10th anniversary—and their 10th Opry appearance.
